Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB (May 1-4): a race anchored in its region

From May 1 to 4, the 3rd edition of Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB® will bring together more than 2,300 runners from 56 countries, confirming the growing passion for trail running in Southeast Asia. With 5 races spanning 4 distances (100M, 100K, 50K, 20K), the event is a true test of endurance in the heart of the wild landscapes of the Thai-Malaysian border. Local representation is strong — 45% of participants are from Thailand and 33% from Malaysia. Female participation is also on the rise, now at 30%. This event does more than just showcase Thailand’s stunning scenery; it actively supports the local community. More than 40 community groups will contribute as volunteers, artists and race entertainers. Nearly 1,000 runners — about 45% of the field — have donated to three local charities supporting health, education and volunteering. Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB (May 15-18): an adventure among vineyards and castles

Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB® returns for its 3rd edition from May 15 to 18, 2025, with 7,000 runners expected across 5 races and 4 distances (100M, 100K, 50K, 20K). The momentum for female participation continues to build, with 1,700 women registered accounting for 24% of the field — a result of ongoing efforts to boost inclusion and visibility. Initiatives such as webinars, a dedicated WhatsApp group, the ‘Culotte & Trail’ podcast, female hygiene kits and dedicated spaces, plus partnerships with local associations like Ladies Run and Boobs Aventure, have all played a part. Once again the competition is set to be fierce, with a strong and balanced elite field and spectacular finishes anticipated at the Obernai ramparts. Sébastien Spehler (FRA, UTMB Index 885), last year’s 100M winner and local favourite, is back on the start line. Anna Carlsson (SWE, UTMB Index 704), winner of the 100K in 2024, steps up to the 100M, while Grégory Basilico (FRA, UTMB Index 828), 2023’s 50K champion, is local favourite for the 100K. Marie Goncalves (FRA, UTMB Index 740) will also defend her 50K title. Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB 2025 further strengthens its commitment to the values of the UTMB World Series, through a wide range of local initiatives, particularly the support of local associations. HOKA Ultra-Trail Australia™ by UTMB (May 15-18): spotlight on Oceania’s new Major.

From May 15 to 18 2025, HOKA Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB® returns to the Blue Mountains for its 1st edition as the Oceania Major, with a brand-new 100-mile race on the programme. The event is sold out across all distances, with over 8,000 participants, 45% of whom are women — demonstrating an impressive commitment to gender balance and inclusion. Among the elite runners China’s star trail runner** Jiasheng Shen (CN, UTMB Index 899)** and Caitlin Fielder (NZL, UTMB Index 786), runner-up in the 100K at Tarawera Ultra-Trail by UTMB®, are both set to compete. The event will open with a traditional ceremony led by Uncle David King, deepening ties with Indigenous communities. Also on the programme is a Women in Trail roundtable event attended by athletes and leading women in the sport. Racing will be broadcast live on UTMB® Live. Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB (May 16-18): showcasing the best of the Welsh mountains.

The 7th edition of Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB®, and the 4th as part of the UTMB World Series circuit, takes place in the heart of the Welsh mountains from May 16 to 18. The event highlights the huge commitment of the British trail community, with UK runners making up 70% of the field — a true indication of local enthusiasm! With 4 races on offer (100M, 100K, 50K, 25K), the event draws a large and diverse crowd each year. Female participation has reached 22% this year, with strong growth in the shorter formats, where women account for 39% of entries in the 25K race.
A highly anticipated showdown is expected in the 100K as Mathieu Blanchard (FRA, UTMB Index 900) and Jonathan Albon (UK, UTMB Index 928) face off for the first time. In the women’s races, Yngvild Kaspersen (NOR, UTMB Index 796), 2024 CCC winner at HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc, will take on the 50K. Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB remains strongly committed to both sustainability and inclusivity. The event continues to support the Snowdonia Society and local mountain rescue teams through donations from runner entries. In the event village, organisations such as Pair Ups and Snowdonia Gear Repair will be on hand to offer practical solutions for extending the life of trail running gear. Accessibility to the trails continues to be a priority: Trail Fam returns to organise the ERYRI MINI Kids’ Race, while the Runderbolts and Alpine Run Project groups will lead volunteer support at Aid Stations. Dedicated initiatives for women include Q&A sessions before the event, increased visibility at the start line, and a dedicated section in the Runner’s Guide. Ultra-Trail Great Wall by UTMB (May 16-18): a unique challenge through ancient heritage.

From May 16 to 18, 2025, Ultra-Trail Great Wall by UTMB® invites runners from around the world to an unforgettable adventure along the Great Wall of China, in Qiaoxi, Zhangjiakou, Hebei province. New to the UTMB World Series, the event promises a full immersion in history — combining iconic sites, Ming dynasty remains, and spectacular vistas across 4 races (100K, 50K, 20K, 10K). Runners will set off from the famous Dajingmen Gate and follow the ancient 'Silk Road of the Steppes', passing military relics, Great Wall watchtowers, Qingbian Pass and Mount Ren’tou. Mountain Ultra Trail by UTMB May 22-25): achieving near-parity in the Outeniqua Mountains.

The 8th edition of Mountain Ultra-Trail by UTMB®, its 3rd as part of the UTMB World Series, will see over 2,000 runners gather in the Outeniqua mountains in George, South Africa, from May 22 to 25. This edition promises a particularly vibrant atmosphere, with strong local momentum — 85% of participants are South African, showing the nation’s enthusiasm for this flagship event. With 47% female participants (up from 44% in 2024), Mountain Ultra-Trail by UTMB stands out for its near parity between men and women, while some races will even see women in the majority: 67% of Mountain Ultra-Trail Lite and 56% of Mountain Ultra-Trail Challenge entrants are women. Beyond the racing, the event will celebrate South African culture with a week of entertainment that includes social runs and a concert by Sunset Sweatshop on Sunday, May 25. Local skills and traditions will also be in the spotlight with a dedicated Local Corner. Mountain Ultra Trail by UTMB is committed to leaving a positive legacy. In close partnership with the Garden Route Trail Running (GTR) association, the event supports trail conservation through initiatives like Green Week, fundraising social runs, and the Miler Recce Runs — reconnaissance outings led by the organising team, combining running, camping, and a traditional South African braai (barbecue).
