UTMB WORLD SERIES ANNOUNCES A NEW EVENT IN ARGENTINA: PATAGONIA BARILOCHE BY UTMB

Discover the ‘adventure capital of the world’ at Patagonia Bariloche by UTMB®

From November 18-22, 2025, San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina - otherwise known as the ‘adventure capital of the world’ - will showcase its breathtaking surroundings and trail-running paradise as it makes its debut on the UTMB® World Series calendar. This follows the remarkable success of Valhöll Fin del Mundo by UTMB® (March 18-22, 2025), which captivated 2,000 runners with its wild Patagonian landscapes and challenging courses, further cementing Argentina's reputation as a premier trail-running destination.

Set amidst the Nahuel Huapi National Park, which covers more than 7,000 kilometres, runners will find themselves immersed in Patagonia’s rugged beauty as they take on one of the six race distances, ranging from 12km to 130km.

Each course will lead athletes through some of the region's iconic mountains, including Cerro Otto and Catedral, passing by crystal-lakes like Lake Nahuel Huapi - the largest in the region - and the Frey Refuge, an emblematic spot amongst mountaineers and hikers.

Finish line awaits at the Centro Civico, considered the heart of Bariloche. This picturesque location, with its European influence and alpine charm, provides the perfect setting for finish line celebrations across all race distances.

We are excited to welcome runners and visitors from all over the world to our beautiful city. Patagonia Bariloche by UTMB is a unique opportunity to showcase the natural beauty and the hospitality of our people. We are sure that participants and spectators will enjoy the experience of running and exploring our unique landscapes.” - Walter Cortés, Mayor of San Carlos de Bariloche.

Patagonia Bariloche by UTMB also represents an important opportunity for the economic and tourist development of our region. We are working hard to ensure that visitors have an unforgettable experience and that our city benefits from the positive impact generated by this event. We are proud to be the hosts of this event, and we are confident that it will be a resounding success.” - Sergio Herrero, Secretary of Tourism of San Carlos de Bariloche.

A major opportunity and thrilling new addition for South American runners

Trail running continues to grow in Argentina, with 29,300 Argentinians holding a valid UTMB Index, and 4,046 runners having participated in the UTMB World Series in 2024. The sport's growing popularity in South America makes Patagonia Bariloche by UTMB a welcome addition. Joining Valhöll Fin del Mundo by UTMB on the UTMB World Series calendar in 2025, this event gives local athletes the chance to race closer to home, discover the best of their backyard, and earn Running Stones for entry into the UTMB World Series Finals.

Race Director, Gonzalo Castillo said,We are absolutely thrilled to host the second UTMB World Series event in Argentina, right here in the breathtaking Patagonia Bariloche. This is not just a race; it's an opportunity to experience the incredible natural beauty of the region in the Southern Hemisphere during spring. Bariloche offers a unique challenge for runners, with its stunning mountain landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, and ever-changing weather that truly tests the endurance of any athlete.”

The blend of adventure and challenge in this setting is something that you won't find anywhere else,” added Castillo. We are proud to offer not only a world-class event but also an invitation to explore a part of Argentina that is as warm and welcoming as it is beautiful. From the thrill of the race to the hospitality of the people and the many tourist attractions to discover, Bariloche promises a once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone involved.”

The event is also committed to environmental conservation through its partnerships with Nahuel Huapi National Park and with Circuito Verde, a group of volunteer professionals dedicated to tree planting, community cleanups, and educating the public on nature conservation. These initiatives align with both the events and the circuits core values and principles, while ensuring the preservation of Patagonia's natural beauty for future generations to come.

Hosting an event in the adventure sports world capital as part of the UTMB World Series was almost an obvious choice. We're pleased to do so with the support of our long-standing local partners in Argentina, and to offer runners a dazzling experience between the Andes and the marvellous Lake Nahuel Huapi. Many thanks to the city of Bariloche and the province of Rio Negro for their warm welcome.”
