RunX ZaandamAbout the runner
My name is Sander Koomen. I am a former Paralympic athlete and for years I competed at the world’s top level in paratriathlon for blind and visually impaired athletes. I have Usher syndrome, a condition that affects both my vision and my hearing. At the moment, I have about 5% vision left. After my paratriathlon career, I discovered a new passion: ultrarunning and trail running. On long distances and out in nature, I feel most free. With my story, I want to inspire people and show that a disability does not have to limit you in pursuing big goals. It’s not your condition that decides where you stop – you decide how far you go.
