Utah’s iconic Snowbasin to host new UTMB World Series event in Ogden

The UTMB World Series circuit is thrilled to announce the addition of Snowbasin by UTMB, a brand-new event set in the heart of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. The inaugural event is scheduled to take place on September 11-12, 2026, for one year only and will shift to September 16-18 beginning in 2027. The new Snowbasin by UTMB will deliver the UTMB World Series experience to one of the most iconic mountain destinations in the western United States.

A legacy of mountain sports, performance and hospitality

Snowbasin is one of the oldest and most renowned ski resorts in the United States: a pioneer that has witnessed the evolution of outdoor sports. Having hosted events at the 2002 Winter Olympics, it offers world-class infrastructure and amenities, making it an ideal venue for trail running competitions. The arrival of this new event on the international calendar marks a major milestone for both Snowbasin resort and the UTMB World Series circuit, bringing together one of trail running’s most renowned international series with a destination defined by high performance, competitive spirit, and a deep connection to the mountains.

"We are deeply honored to be welcomed by the Snowbasin Resort community and to carry on the traditions and heritage of this exceptional place”, said Florian Lamblin, UTMB International Executive Director. “With its Olympic legacy, world-class trails, and stunning alpine landscapes, Snowbasin embodies the values of our circuit, and offers runners a truly premium and unforgettable experience. We are proud to showcase one of Utah’s most iconic resorts on the global stage and can’t wait to welcome athletes to discover its outstanding trails."

Utah’s unique alure and Ogden’s best trail

Located just outside Ogden, Utah, Snowbasin Resort is renowned for its pristine trails, alpine lakes, and panoramic views of the Great Salt Lake and surrounding peaks. The event will immerse runners in the rugged beauty and vibrant outdoor culture of northern Utah

“As an ultra-runner and race director, I’m excited to partner with the UTMB World Series to bring Snowbasin by UTMB to the Ogden Community,” said Alex Docta, Snowbasin by UTMB Race Director. “We have so much beauty here in northern Utah to showcase to the world. Snowbasin Resort will provide our participants with stunning trails and world class hospitality. From aspen forests, towering fir trees, mountain meadows, to stunning views of the Great Salt Lake, runners will see why the greater Ogden area is becoming a trail running hub. As a runner, whether it was running Speedgoat by UTMB, Puerto Vallarta by UTMB, or HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc, I’ve always been impressed by UTMB’s course choices, attention to detail, and their emphasis on runner safety. We’re looking forward to providing a fantastic experience for you all here at Snowbasin by UTMB.”

Featuring 58km and 28km distances, Snowbasin by UTMB’s courses will traverse some of the most iconic terrain in the Wasatch Range. From runnable high-alpine trails to smooth, flowing descents back to the finish line, Snowbasin by UTMB will showcase the diversity and character of the northern local landscape, delivering a trail running experience rooted in adventure and community spirit.

The 2026 58km (50K) race will offer a tough but runnable 5,800 ft of elevation gain over the route. Runners will move through sagebrush, stands of aspen and fir trees while drinking in amazing views of Ogden City and the Great Salt Lake. The 28km (20K) course showcases the best singletrack of Snowbasin Resort with over 2,400 ft of climbing, taking runners through forests and mountain meadows, enjoying views of craggy peaks while circumnavigating the resort.

Supporting the Ogden community

Snowbasin by UTMB will also launch the Cares Bibs initiative. Funds raised through this program will be reinvested directly into the greater Ogden area via community grants, helping to support local projects, organizations, and initiatives. An effort ensuring that the event also gives back to the community that makes it all possible.

"We’re incredibly excited to welcome the Snowbasin by UTMB to Ogden and to see Snowbasin officially join the UTMB World Series,” says Sara Toliver, President and CEO of Visit Ogden. “This race showcases everything that makes our community special from Snowbasin’s world-class trail system, our incredible fall weather and colors, our local vibrant food scene, entertainment, and outdoor culture that runners and their families can enjoy throughout race weekend. Ogden is proud to host an event of this caliber and to share our trails, our town, and our hospitality with athletes from around the world.”
