Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB®: a journey through time on the legendary Shu Roads

Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB®: a journey through time on the legendary Shu Roads

From 8–9 November 2025, the inaugural Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB® will welcome 3,700 runners to the mountainous region of Jiange, in the heart of China’s Sichuan province – birthplace of the legendary Shu Roads that once linked central China to the Sichuan basin. Almost 98% of participants will come from China, with women representing 37% of the field.

Beyond the breathtaking scenery, runners will experience a land steeped in history and legend across three distances — 20K, 50K, 100K. Ancient stone paths carpeted in moss wind through misty rice paddies, sheer cliffs, and ridgelines overlooking deep valleys. From the Jianmen Pass, witness to** epic battles**, to the thousand-year-old cypress trees of the Cuiyun Corridor, and the revolutionary slogans carved into rock faces, every step will be a journey through time, blending wild landscapes with history.

Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB® also stands out for its commitment to protecting the environment and celebrating local heritage. Finisher medals are made from plant-based paper, reducing environmental impact while paying tribute to Chinese culture.

The event will also launch The Wandering Postcard, a cultural initiative linking UTMB World Series events across Asia. Travelling across mountains and seas, this project aims to collect and share runners’ stories, carrying the spirit of a shared passion wherever it goes.
