May is shaping up to be particularly busy on the UTMB World Series circuit, with seven events on the schedule. The highlight of this sequence: Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB, the first Major of the season, joined by two new races making their debut on the circuit, in the United States with Rothrock by UTMB and in Portugal with Oh Meu Deus by UTMB. All of these events can be followed live on live.utmb.world.
Oh Meu Deus by UTMB®: an inaugural edition in Portugal
From 1 to 3 May, Oh Meu Deus by UTMB will mark the arrival of the UTMB World Series circuit in Portugal, building on an already well-established event with 15 years of history. For this first edition within the circuit, nearly 2,100 runners are expected, with participation still largely local (62%).
An immersion in the Serra da Lousã
Starting from Seia, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela, the event offers four race formats: 164 km (100M), 94 km (100K), 52 km (50K) and 22 km (20K). The courses cross the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and extend to the ranges of the Serra do Açor and the Serra da Lousã, offering a diversity of landscapes between glacial valleys, high-altitude lakes and mountain ridges. The highlight of the experience: passing through Torre, the highest point in mainland Portugal, reaching 1,993 metres. Runners will also move through the iconic schist villages, showcasing a unique rural and cultural heritage.
An event with a strong territorial anchoring
More than just a race, Oh Meu Deus by UTMB is part of a strong territorial dynamic. Held in a region still marked by recent wildfires, the event stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal. The organisation works closely with local associations, artisans and rural stakeholders to support the economy and the preservation of trails. Solidarity bibs help fund local initiatives, notably by supporting Casa Santa Isabel, an association also involved in designing the trophies. The event is also committed to sustainability issues, favouring local partnerships and promoting the region’s resources.
The organisation also highlights several initiatives supporting women’s participation, including the Girls Trail Camp – Oh Meu Deus by UTMB, held from 27 to 29 March in collaboration with the Girls in Trail collective. This camp, which brought together 22 local participants in the Arganil region, featured trail sessions on sections of the race course, as well as a participatory workshop focused on sharing experiences and individual journeys. This commitment to inclusivity is paired with a focus on accessibility and diversity of profiles, in a country where trail running is experiencing rapid growth.
Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB®: First Major and opening of the UTMB Live season in the Blue Mountains
From 14 to 17 May, the Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB® will kick off the UTMB Live season, as the first of the four UTMB World Series Majors of the year to be broadcast live on live.utmb.world. Held in the Blue Mountains, this 19th edition — and 2nd as a Major — is set to be the largest ever, with nearly 7,800 runners expected. The event confirms its strong local roots: 90% of participants are Australian and 65% live within 160 kilometres of the venue. The feminisation of the field continues, with women making up 43% of the total, one of the highest rates on the circuit, and even forming a majority in the shorter distances, reaching 55% in the 22 km and 61% in the 11 km.
An immersion at the heart of a UNESCO-listed natural site
The event features six race formats: 161 km (100M), 101 km (100K), 51 km (50K), 22 km (20K), 11 km and 1 km (for children). All courses run through the spectacular landscapes of the Blue Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with sandstone cliffs, forests and the iconic Furber Steps. A true cornerstone of trail running in Oceania, this race offers an immersive experience shaped by strong environmental and cultural commitments. The organisation highlights Aboriginal culture, with a “Welcome to Country” ceremony, traditional rituals, and efforts to raise runners’ awareness of the land they traverse.
A strong commitment to diversity and inclusion
Staying true to the circuit’s values, Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB continues its initiatives to promote inclusion and women’s participation. Specific measures are being implemented, including dedicated spaces, the provision of feminine hygiene products at aid stations, and speaking opportunities that highlight the role of women in the sport.
The 2025 UTMB winner on the 50K start line
The 50K will draw significant attention with the presence of Ruth Croft (NZL, UTMB Index 799), winner of her last four races, including UTMB 2025, who will take on the Australian trails. Alongside her on the start line, American Allison Baca (USA, UTMB Index 764), winner of the Chihuahua by UTMB 50K, and Miao Yao (CHN, UTMB Index 808), winner of the 2025 OCC, will aim to challenge the New Zealander.
In the men’s race, Daniel Jones (NZL, UTMB Index 918), a leading figure in New Zealand trail running, returns to defend his title over the same distance. The field also promises to be wide open, with strong Asian representation across the three qualifying categories for the UTMB World Series Finals. The 2025 Kodiak Ultra-Marathons by UTMB 100M winner, Lin Chen (CHN, UTMB Index 750), will compete in the 100M. Guidu Qin (CHN, UTMB Index 899) and Guomin Deng (CHN, UTMB Index 873) are entered in the 100K. Japanese runner Hiroki Kai (JPN, UTMB Index 826), winner of the 20K at the final Major of the 2025 season, Chiang Mai by UTMB, will line up in the 50K.

Trail Alsace by UTMB®: an event ever closer to runners, rooted in the heart of the Alsace region
From 14 to 17 May, the Trail Alsace by UTMB® will bring together 8,000 runners for its 4th edition, confirming its lasting presence in the European trail running landscape and within the UTMB World Series circuit. The event retains a strong national identity, with 80% French participants, and a female participation rate reaching 26% (+2% vs the 2025 edition). Trail Alsace by UTMB offers six race formats through the region’s iconic landscapes, vineyards, traditional villages and medieval castles perched along the Vosges ridges: 158 km (100M), 108 km (100K), 47 km (50K), 29 km (20K), 18 km (20K).
This 2026 edition also marks the introduction of the “Trail des Écuyers” (10.5 km and 400m+), a new race dedicated to young runners born between 2007 and 2010, integrated into a cross-border “challenge” circuit bringing together Swiss, French and Italian events. Another strong symbol: the “Bretzel d’Or” bib with the “Historical” distinction, awarded to participants who have been loyal since the first edition.
An organisation designed for all audiences
The event continues to grow with concrete initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience for runners and their families. A major new feature this year is the introduction of a childcare service in Obernai, allowing parents to fully enjoy their race with peace of mind. On the environmental front, the organisation is maintaining its public transport system to reduce car use, making it easier to reach start lines and aid stations. Finally, solidarity bibs are available in support of local organisations such as “Les Châteaux Forts d’Alsace”, “ELA” and “Le Club Vosgien”, further strengthening the event’s local and community roots. More information about childcare here.
The Trail des Celtes takes centre stage
The Trail des Celtes (50K) promises to be highly competitive, featuring a showdown between American Christian Allen (USA, UTMB Index 903), Pierre Galbourdin (FRA, UTMB Index 878), the recent 2026 French short trail champion, and Pierre Livache (FRA, UTMB Index 856), winner of the 2025 Festival des Templiers. In the women’s field, attention will turn to the 100K, with a battle expected between Emily Schmitz (USA, UTMB Index 724) and Marta Wenta (POL, UTMB Index 722).
Rothrock by UTMB®: a new chapter on the U.S. East Coast
From 15 to 17 May, Rothrock by UTMB® will make its debut on the UTMB World Series circuit, becoming the second event on the U.S. East Coast alongside Grindstone Running Festival by UTMB. This first edition within the UTMB World Series builds on the legacy of the Rothrock Trail Challenge, created in 2009 and deeply rooted in American trail culture. For this transition, the event retains its identity while expanding in scale, with nearly 700 runners expected, including 90% Americans and 30% female participation.
A raw immersion in the heart of Pennsylvania
Held in the Rothrock State Forest, near State College (“Happy Valley”), the event offers two race formats: 54 km (50K) and 27 km (20K). The 27 km follows the historic course that built the race’s reputation, while the 54 km explores a broader range of the region’s terrain, including the iconic Tussey Ridge Trail. With rocky ridgelines, dense forests, rhododendron tunnels and technical descents, the courses deliver a demanding and distinctly American trail experience. Iconic sections such as the Bear Meadows Natural Area and the unique “beer tap” aid station further reinforce the race’s singular identity.
Supporting local communities
The integration into the UTMB World Series circuit is built on close collaboration with the event’s historic team, ensuring the continuity of its community spirit. Organisers have committed to contributing more than $40,000 to the Rothrock community over the next three years, demonstrating their strong attachment to the people and landscapes that make this region unique. These funds will be distributed as community grants to local organisations working to develop outdoor activities and protect trails and natural areas. A flagship example is the Rothrock Trail Alliance, whose vital work ensures trails remain accessible, safe and enjoyable for runners, hikers and nature enthusiasts.
Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB®: a wild adventure in the heart of the Welsh mountains
From 15 to 17 May, Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB® will bring together nearly 3,200 runners for its 8th edition, including its 5th within the UTMB World Series circuit. The event confirms its strong British roots, with 83% of participants based in the United Kingdom. Female participation reaches 30%, supported by targeted initiatives promoting inclusion. For this 2026 edition, Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB offers five race formats: 163 km (100M), 100 km (100K), 78 km (100K), 56 km (50K), 25 km (20K), set in the heart of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). The courses are known for their technical nature, crossing terrain famed for its toughness: exposed ridgelines, rapidly changing conditions and demanding climbs. A true benchmark of British trail running, the race attracts runners each year in search of an alpine-style challenge on Welsh terrain.
A concrete commitment to more responsible trail running
Ultra-Trail Snowdonia continues its efforts in terms of sustainability and inclusion. Practical measures are in place to support women’s participation, including dedicated toilets, sanitary products available at aid stations, and balanced representation in communications. The “Trees not Tees” initiative allows participants to choose tree planting instead of receiving a t-shirt: more than 550 runners have already opted for this. Finally, a circular approach is encouraged through the presence of local organisations such as “Pair Ups” and “Snowdonia Gear Repair”, offering on-site equipment repair services in the race village.
Mozart 100 by UTMB® 2026: a new beginning in the heart of the Salzkammergut
On 23 May 2026, Mozart 100 by UTMB will usher in a new era, moving from Salzburg to Fuschl am See, in the heart of the Salzkammergut. This 14th edition — the 5th within the UTMB World Series circuit — marks a natural shift towards more alpine landscapes, between crystal-clear lakes and iconic peaks. This new setting will welcome nearly 3,000 participants, including 29% women, with a female majority in the 12 km race (59%). The event thus reflects a significant evolution: a deeper immersion in nature, while preserving the cultural heritage linked to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose family history is closely tied to the region.
An alpine playground between lakes and peaks
The programme features six formats: 12 km, 28 km (20K), 44 km (50K), 72 km (100K), 119 km (100M) and a relay on the 72 km. The courses run through the iconic landscapes of the Salzkammergut, between the shores of Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee, across open alpine pastures and more technical mountain sections. Among the highlights: the ascent of Schafberg, the ridgelines of Zwölferhorn, and Gaisberg. From runnable lakeside trails to more demanding climbs, each distance offers a balance between accessibility and challenge.
Exciting battles on the start line
On the 50K and 100M, the elite field promises high-level competition. In the 50K, Camilla Magliano (ITA, UTMB Index 765), fresh off her victory at the 2026 Istria 100 by UTMB 50K, and Julia Font-Gomez (ESP, UTMB Index 762) are set to battle at the front, alongside Joaquin Narvaes (ARG, UTMB Index 848), winner of the 2026 Ushuaia Fin Del Mundo by UTMB 50K, and Moritz Auf Der Heide (GER, UTMB Index 843), who claimed victory in the 20K at the final Major of the 2025 season at HOKA Chiang Mai Thailand by UTMB. In the 100M, the men’s race will see local runner Alexander Hutter (AUT, UTMB Index 836) compete against Alexander Westenberger (GER, UTMB Index 839) and French athlete Jérémie Marin (FRA, UTMB Index 815). In the women’s field, Jana Dobrovolna (CZE, UTMB Index 695) will line up alongside Kimino Miyazaki (JPN, UTMB Index 681).
Mountain Ultra Trail by UTMB®: a wild immersion along South Africa’s Garden Route
Held in George, on the east coast of South Africa, the 11th edition, and 5th “by UTMB”, of the Mountain Ultra Trail by UTMB® (MUT) will take place from 29 to 31 May. With nearly 2,000 participants, including 87% locals, and a female majority in the 25 km race (53%), the event stands out as a true trail festival set in the spectacular landscapes of the Garden Route. Nestled in the Outeniqua Mountains, it offers a unique immersion between the Indian Ocean and the arid Karoo hinterland, across a rich and varied terrain combining indigenous forests, rocky ridgelines and fynbos, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. The programme features six race formats: 163 km (100M), 98 km (100K), 58 km (50K), 44 km (50K), 25 km (20K) and 11 km. The courses wind through an extensive network of technical trails across the Outeniqua Mountains, reaching elevations of over 1,500 metres. Runners move through a raw environment, alternating demanding climbs, lush valleys and sweeping views of the ocean to the south.
A strong community dimension
The event stands out for its local roots and its commitment to the South African trail community. Initiatives such as the “For The Trails Community Runs” help raise funds dedicated to trail maintenance and safety. This work is carried out in collaboration with local stakeholders, notably the Garden Route Trail Running collective, which actively contributes to the preservation and development of the region’s trail network. Beyond the race itself, MUT is part of a broader dynamic through the “Hou Bene Hou Tour”, a nationwide tour across South Africa aimed at bringing together running communities and promoting the sport. Through group runs, local gatherings and shared experiences, this initiative embodies the spirit of South African trail running — rooted in camaraderie, resilience and self-transcendence.
